The Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces of the North of the Armed Forces of Ukraine believes that the Ukrainian soldier shot by the Russian military for the words “Glory to Ukraine” is a fighter of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of the Chernihiv Oblast Troops Oleksandr Matsiyevsky.
The department reported that on December 30, 2022, Matsievsky and four other servicemen engaged in a battle with superior enemy forces, which moved near Soledar, Donetsk region. Visual contact and communication with the fighters was lost around 12 noon.
“Reinforcements could not penetrate their position due to continuous mortar fire and heavy fire from small arms. We do not fully know the details of that battle. It is not known who died and how, no know how Alexander was captured, unfortunately there are no witnesses left, all dead or missing,” added the terrorist’s defense.

Matsievsky was identified in the video by his mother Paraskovia Mikhailovna and son Mikhail, as well as colleagues from his unit.
The last time Alexander called his mother on December 29, announcing his stay at the front with the words “Mom, I will never give up!” In the following days, the military phone went unanswered, and on January 7, the message “the subscriber is back in touch” was received.

Matsievsky was born on May 10, 1980 in Moldova, where his mother was sent by distribution. He worked as a technologist at a shoe factory in Chisinau. Until February 2022, Alexander worked in his specialty. From the first day of the general invasion, he went to the Nezhin military registration and enlistment office, but could not immediately enter the army. He helped build fortifications in the city, guarded the checkpoint, prepared Molotov cocktails, and forced his way back to the assembly point.
On March 11, he was assigned to the Nizhyn Territorial Defense Battalion. Alexander diligently studied military affairs, he was appointed a sniper.
In December, when the battalion was about to leave for the east, Alexander did not tell his mother that he was leaving for the zone of active combat, he really did not want her to worry. When he said goodbye to her, “she gave thanks for the fact that she gave birth to him.”
