Sam AltmanFounder Open AI and head behind ChatGPTpoints to the winner and now points to a company that aims to delay death in humans.
Altman is investing $180 million in a startup called Retro biological sciences which aims to increase life expectancy by another 10 years.
Financing
In accordance with MIT Technology OverviewAltman invested this massive amount in 2021 for seed funding, but it is only now known that the innovator provided the money.
Retro biological sciences is a scientific work aimed at advancing technologies such as single cell multiomics and computational biology to reprogram cells and prolong their life, prevent multiple diseases and increase the lifespan of people.
About eight years ago, Altman became interested in research on the so-called “young blood”. These were studies in which scientists crossed young and old mice so that they had a common blood system. Surprise: old mice seem to have partially rejuvenated. There, Altman, as head of Y Combinator, a small design incubator, commissioned his staff to investigate the progress made by scientists in the field of anti-aging.
According to one of the directors Retro biological sciencesAltman’s name was withheld so as not to distract the company, create a bad reputation in the press, and hinder the progress of the company’s investigations.
more investment
Altman also invested $375 million in Helion Energya startup that is trying to build a fusion reactor.
All of these companies, including OpenAI, are what Altman calls “tough” startups, requiring huge investments to make scientific breakthroughs and master complex technologies.
Science companies are more expensive to fund, but Altman believes his larger goals are more likely to attract talented engineers. He recently tweeted a quote from Victorian architect Daniel Burnham: “Don’t make small plans. They have no magic capable of stirring up human blood.
