Three people were detained in Japan for unhygienic jokes in restaurants with sushi conveyor belts, events that were recorded and posted on social media, causing outrage in the country.
The police accused three young men of obstructing the work of a huge restaurant in Kura Sushi chainwhich received numerous customer complaints after the video went viral.
In the footage, a member of the trio can be seen taking a piece of sushi from a plate and putting it whole in their mouth before drinking soy sauce straight from a shared bottle.
Similar videos, recorded at various restaurant chains, surfaced last month on platforms such as Twitter or tik taka prank that became known as “sushi terrorism”.
In these images, the young men licked their lips, then touched the pieces of sushi in circulation and licked the rim of the cup before hanging it back on their belt.
Detainees
This was reported by a police spokesman AFP On Thursday, three people were arrested in central Aichi: a 15-year-old girl and two boys, aged 21 and 19.
His attitude forced the Kura Sushi staff to do an emergency cleaning, “making it difficult for the business to operate normally,” the spokesperson added.
The arrests are considered the first in the case to spark outrage in Japan, a country renowned for its high hygiene standards.
While no formal charges have yet been filed, “interfering with business” in Japan can carry heavy penalties of up to three years in prison.
Company that works Kura Sushi chain, which has nearly 500 locations in Japan, welcomed the arrests and hoped they would help prevent future copycats. (AFP)
