It is known that the two-time Golden Globe Award winner passed away on Thursday, March 8 in Tel Aviv after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
The death of a celebrity was confirmed by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who called him “a talented actor who conquered many scenes in Israel and abroad, filled the screens of cinemas with his presence and especially penetrated deeply into our hearts.”
Topol began his acting career while serving in the Israeli army with the Nahal entertainment troupe and later toured Israel with kibbutz theater and satirical theater troupes.
In 1969, theater critics showered Chaim with positive reviews for his performance as Tevye the milkman in the play based on the musical Fiddler on the Roof. He starred in Norman Jewison’s film version in 1971. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor. It won for cinematography, sound and music.
In addition, the actor played in more than one successful project.
