Ukraine has already received 34 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns. Germany must transfer two more pieces of equipment.
This is known from the list of aid transferred to Ukraine, published on the website of the German government.
This time they delivered:
- 2 APU Gepard and 6 thousand ammunition for them;
- 2 vehicles belonging to the German border guard (Grenzschutzfahrzeuge);
- 6 mobile antenna masts.
The list of aid that they plan to donate also includes 20 Biber bridgelayers and 500 SFP9 pistols.
Recall that the concern Rheinmetall begins production of 35-mm ammunition Gepard. It is planned to supply 150 thousand APDS-T armor-piercing sub-caliber and HEI-T fragmentation-incendiary shells.
The first APDS-T projectiles will be delivered in the summer of 2023, with production transition from APDS-T to HEI-T scheduled for mid-2024.
The Gepard APU is based on the chassis of the Leopard 1 tank. Two 35 mm Oerlikon KDA cannons and two radars are installed on the turret, which determine the target at a distance of up to 15 km.
The installation can hit targets at a distance of 100 m to 4 km. Her crew consists of only three people: driver, commander and gunner.
In January, the head of the board of directors of Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, announced that by the middle of next year, Germany would transfer 300,000 ammunition to the Gepard Armed Forces to Ukraine.
