The ship Yong Xing 56 was carrying 29,000 tons of alumina. The cause of the crash was a hole in the hull.
In the Tatar Strait, 42 miles from the port of Vanino, Khabarovsk Territory, the Chinese dry cargo ship Yong Xing 56 sank. This was reported on March 1 by the press service of Rosmorrechflot.
It was noted that a ship with a cargo of 29,000 tons of alumina, which was in 10-point ice, on February 23 gave a distress signal due to the inflow of water.
The crew, consisting of 21 people (all citizens of the PRC), went down on the sea ice. Another ship took them on board. None of the sailors were hurt.
Inspection of the hull revealed a hole in the foreak area, collision bulkhead and hold No. 1 on the starboard side, 2×1.5 m in size. In the following days, rescuers tried to repair it, but the flooding of the interior continued.
On the night of March 1, the Yong Xing 56 sank. The Chinese crew was on board the rescue ship Otto Schmidt.
It was previously reported that a fire broke out on the cargo ship Escape in the Baltic Sea, which the onboard security system could not put out. All 15 crew members left the ship, which drifted toward the western shore of the Gulf of Riga.
