A full-scale war has become a continuation of Russia’s aggression since February 2014, Dmitry Kuleba’s office said.
The only reason for Russia’s unquestioning aggression and invasion of Ukraine is the neo-imperial ambitions and expansion of the Russian leadership as part of an attempt to revive the “Russian empire” by capturing neighboring countries. This was stated in a statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, issued on the anniversary of the Russian invasion on Friday, February 24.
Dmitry Kuleba’s department noted that the large-scale war is a continuation of Russia’s aggression since February 2014, when the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea was occupied, as well as some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“With its criminal actions, Russia has blatantly violated the UN Charter, the basic norms and principles of international law, a number of bilateral and multilateral agreements. For a year, Ukraine has been defending itself and the entire democratic world from neo-colonialism, daily giving the lives of its best children for freedom, democracy and the rule of law,” the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry thanked international partners who stood by Ukraine, providing an unprecedented amount of military, financial, political, legal, humanitarian and energy assistance, applying powerful economic sanctions against the aggressor state, working on the creation of a Special International Tribunal to punish the highest political and military leadership of Russia for the crime of aggression against Ukraine
“At this critical stage of the war, we call on our international partners to redouble their comprehensive and critically needed support for Ukraine to accelerate the Ukrainian victory,” the diplomatic department said.
In particular, the Foreign Ministry considers it most important to consolidate efforts around the peace formula, the implementation of which will ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and prevent the repetition of such aggression in the future.
“The unchanging requirements for the beginning of peace must be the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, the restoration of internationally recognized borders, the payment of reparations for all damages caused by Russia’s armed aggression, and bringing to international criminal responsibility those who gave the criminal orders and those who carried them out,” the department concluded.
Recall that in the fall of 2022, in his speech at the G20 summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky presented a 10-point peace plan covering issues such as security, including food and energy, as well as the removal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.
Later it became known that the European Union supported the Ukrainian formula for peace and will work on the implementation of all points of this initiative.
