NATO aims to stimulate the defense industry to increase the production of ammunition
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO has conducted a complete inventory of its ammunition stocks and intends to increase their production. He said this at a press conference with EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on February 21, TASS reports.
“We have conducted a full review of our ammunition stocks. We will stimulate our industry to increase production,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, NATO countries “worked for many months to increase the production of weapons, and intend to intensify this work by continuing meetings with representatives of the defense industry.”
In addition, as Stoltenberg noted, NATO countries have “increased targets for the level of ammunition stockpiles as part of NATO’s military planning process.”
He added that this would give the defense industry the long-term orders it needs to invest more and expand military production.
The Secretary General of NATO also said that the EU, NATO and Ukraine agreed to hold an expert meeting to further discuss Ukraine’s needs for ammunition and meet them as soon as possible.
It was previously reported that Ukraine, NATO and the EU will hold a trilateral meeting
It should be noted that, according to media reports, the EU’s joint purchase of ammunition for Ukraine is supported by 22 countries.
