The Bundeswehr will start training Ukrainian crews on Leopard 2 tanks from next week.
Spiegel journalists reported that over the past few days, the first groups of Ukrainian military with equipment arrived from Poland to Germany.
The exercises will take place at the Munster training ground in Lower Saxony, where Ukrainian units are already training on the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.
The Bundeswehr is planning an express course for the Ukrainian military. The publication emphasizes that part of the tankers arrived for training directly from the front line in the Bakhmut area.
After 6-8 weeks, the crews should learn the basics of controlling the weapon system, as well as work out the interaction of Leopard 2 battle tanks and the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.
In such a short time, you can only learn the basics of management, usually training takes several years. The military will return to Ukraine along with equipment by the end of March.
Recall, on January 25, the German government agreed on the transfer of 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks. Ukraine is also expecting to receive Leopard 1 tanks. The first batch of this equipment should arrive by the summer of 2023.
