An adviser to the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine (on a voluntary basis) is suspected of taking possession of 1.7 billion hryvnias, which were to be used to purchase goods for the military.
This was announced today, February 3, by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Today he was informed about the suspicion of embezzling funds on an especially large scale (part 5 of article 191 of the Criminal Code).
The press service of the National Police notes that the adviser faces up to 12 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and with confiscation of property. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
Earlier, the director of a business entity received suspicion.
According to the investigation, in 2022, after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, the adviser, in order to steal funds allocated for the purchase of goods for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, entered into a criminal conspiracy with officials of one of the private structures.
Under the concluded agreements, the company received more than UAH 1.7 billion as an advance payment. However, the company did not fulfill its contractual obligations to supply military goods for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within the established time limits, and did not supply the relevant products in a certain amount. Consequently, the state suffered damage in the amount of more than UAH 1.7 billion, the police say.
In addition, law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches at the adviser’s residence.
Earlier in this case, suspicion was reported to the director of the company and two other defendants. More than UAH 55 million and corporate rights of defendants in the amount of more than $50 million were also seized. United States, – add to the police.
