According to the most conservative estimates, during the invasion of Ukraine, Russia could lose more than 26 thousand people who died.
Based on open sources, the BBC managed to establish the names of more than 13 thousand Russian soldiers who died in the war in Ukraine. Among them – 924 were mobilized.
In the last week alone, there have been reports of the deaths of another 500 Russians fighting in Ukraine. Most of those who died in the last three months were mobilized, volunteers and prisoners.
The report says that these are only confirmed reports of deaths, so the data collected does not reflect the true level of losses.
“We assume that our list may contain at least twice less names of the dead than are actually buried in Russia. We came to this conclusion by studying the situation in cemeteries in more than 60 Russian settlements throughout 2022,” – said the message.
Because of this, according to the most conservative estimates, during the invasion of Ukraine, Russia may have lost more than 26 thousand people killed. Russia’s total irretrievable losses (that is, the number of those out of action due to injury, death or missing) could be at least 117,000 people.
“This figure was obtained based on the observations of the US Center for Naval Analysis, according to which, for every Russian soldier who died during the war in Ukraine, an average of about three and a half were wounded. The figure this does not include those who fought on the Russian side in the “people’s militia” of Donetsk and Luhansk,” the journalists wrote.
It is also noted that from open sources it is known about the death of 924 mobilized Russians. This number includes those killed in the Makiivka shooting on January 1. Their funerals continue to take place in the Samara region almost daily, so the established number of dead is clearly uncertain.
Earlier it was reported that in less than a year of war in Ukraine, Russia has lost around 200,000 soldiers killed and wounded.
In the past day, February 2, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed more than 800 invaders.
