Known for its authentic looks, fiuk recalled people’s reactions to his way of dressing when he debuted in Malhação, in 2009. The artist said he was inspired by international rock bands to compose his style.
“Since I was little, I was always enchanted by rock bands with musicians who had a strong personality. All the bands I listened to, which came from abroad, had personality, clothing brands, style… In Brazil, when I went to do Malhação, I put the my clothes and I remember it was a shock. ‘My God, what is this? V-neck? Wow, ma’am!’ There was no such fashion here.”he began.
“The first clothes of this type I bought were feminine. It started to have after I did Malhação. People didn’t understand, they wanted to prune me. The person who helped me was Mário Márcio Bandarra, a director who is now deceased. He was very important at that time when everyone came against me.”he said.
“They started to question: ‘He’s a heartthrob, a leading role and will he wear these clothes?’. He turned to me and said: ‘One person here just has to care about this and that’s Fiuk. If he doesn’t mind, I agree with him. No more saying what a man has to wear’. That was really special.” he spoke.
“An older guy, from another generation, saying: ‘Do men have to wear a suit? Leave the kid, fuck *. He’s 20 years old, he has to wear what he wants, really’. And I introduced him to a lot of fashion stuff, what was emerging and having a movement in other countries. He bought my idea”, said.
“I remember that a lot of people criticized me. I didn’t understand the criticism. They asked: ‘Are you gay or not?’ suffer alone. When you are well resolved, there is nothing to bother you. I started to have fun with people’s questioning.”, he spoke.
“I wanted people to question themselves too: ‘Wow, what about me? I’m fine like this? I want to put such a thing, but I don’t put it why? Why are people going to talk?’ You have to use it for yourself. If you’re going to think about others, you won’t even know how to act. They’ll talk about you anyway”he explained.
“I realized that I could help other people with my style. I received a lot of comments from people saying that I had helped. That gave me a boost”he concluded.
