Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court arrested former Deputy Defense Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov for two months with the possibility of bail of more than 400 million hryvnias. This was reported on February 2 by Ukrayinska Pravda, citing a law enforcement source.
As the interlocutor of the publication clarified, at the request of the State Bureau of Investigation, the court chose a measure of restraint for the former official in the form of detention with an alternative in the form of bail in the amount of 402 million 600 thousand hryvnias.
It will be recalled that on January 24, Shapovalov, who was responsible for army logistics, resigned amid a scandal over the purchase of food for the military at high prices.
On February 1, he was declared a suspect of obstructing the legal activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the official lobbied for the termination of contracts for the supply of goods for the military at high prices, as well as the purchase of low-quality bulletproof vests, helmets, clothing and others more items for the military, total more than one billion hryvnias.
