The European Union will create a coordinating center to collect evidence of Russian crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine.
The center will work in The Hague, said the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The prosecutors of Ukraine and the EU are already working together, we are collecting evidence. And I’m happy to announce that the International Center for Crime Investigation [вчинених в Україні] will be created in The Hague. He will coordinate the collection of evidence,” announced von der Leyen.
She stressed that the European Union will launch the work of the center in the near future. It will work in coordination with Ukraine, partners and the Netherlands.
Recall that earlier the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the establishment of a special tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
The resolution of the European Parliament indicates that the European Union and its members should seek the creation of a special international tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine, committed by the political and military leadership of Russia.
The Special Tribunal, by analogy with the Nuremberg trials after the Second World War, where Nazi leaders were tried, should be created in close cooperation with Ukraine and the international community, preferably through the UN, the European Parliament decided.
Such tribunals were created by decision of the UN Security Council to prosecute those guilty of war crimes in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.
