The second round of voting in the Czech presidential election began on Friday, January 27.
At 14:00 (15:00 Kyiv time), 14,857 polling stations were opened in the republic, where 8.25 million voters of the country, whose population is about 10.6 million, could vote.
Voting takes place over two days. On Friday it will end at 22:00 (23:00 Kyiv time). On Saturday, January 28, it is possible to vote from 08:00 to 14:00 (from 09:00 to 15:00 Kyiv time). The election results will be announced on the evening of January 28.
In the first round, which took place on January 13 and 14, retired General Petr Pavel, former chairman of the NATO Military Committee, and former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš received the most votes.
With a turnout of 68.2% of the voters, Pavel became the leader: he won 35.4% of the votes. Babis sought the support of 34.99% of those who voted.
This presidential election is the third direct and general election of the head of state in the history of the Czech Republic. For the first time in this format they were held in 2013. In the past, the president was elected by the parliament.
According to the results of the last population poll before the second round of elections, conducted by the sociological agency Ipsos from January 20 to 22, 58.8% of Czech voters intend to vote for Pavel.
At the same time, Babiš can count on the support of 41.2% of voters. Turnout is expected to be around 69%.
It can be remembered that Andrej Babiš said that if he was wounded by the president, he would not send Czech soldiers to Poland and the Baltic countries if Russia was still attacking Europe.
