This is the first conversation between the French leader and the President of the Russian Federation after Russia’s military atrocities in Bucha were revealed.
French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, May 3, summoned Russian President Vladimir Putin. Their conversation lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes, according to Le Parisien, who mentioned the Elysee Palace.
Macron has not yet disclosed details about the content of this conversation.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin reported that Putin drew Macron’s attention to the EU’s disregard for alleged “war crimes by Ukrainian security forces.”
According to Putin, the West can help prevent these “atrocities” by providing appropriate influence to the Kyiv authorities, as well as stopping the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
He also said that despite Kyiv’s “inconsistency and unpreparedness for serious work,” the Russian side is still open to dialogue.
In addition, Putin pointed out to Macron that the food security situation is complicated especially by Western sanctions against Russia.
This was Macron’s first conversation with Putin since March 29, before the crimes committed in Bucha were revealed.
Recall that this conversation took place a few days after Macron’s talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It was also reported that gendarmes from France would investigate war crimes of the Russian Federation near Kyiv.
