South Korea announced that several diagnostic tests would be required for travelers from China and that it would limit the issuance of short-stay visas after the neighboring country, which has seen a spike in coronavirus infections, lifted its strict quarantine policy.
Every person who comes from China must complete a PCR test at least 48 hours prior to flight or an antigen test 24 hours prior to flight and will not be able to board unless the result is negative, as explained in a statement today Korea Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Agency (KDCA).
In addition, travelers from China must undergo a repeat PCR within 24 hours of landing in South Korea and maintain a seven-day quarantine in case of a positive test result in accordance with the package of measures presented today, which will be activated on January 2 and will be valid until at least February 28.
Those arriving from a neighboring country will also need to fill out an electronic travel form in order to receive an entry permit.
visa restrictions
South Korea It will also restrict, at least until the end of January, the issuance of short-stay visas to Chinese citizens, with the exception of diplomats and civil servants or those traveling for humanitarian reasons or for business travel deemed necessary.
As for flights between China D South KoreaThe opening of new routes and frequencies will also be frozen for now, and all flights departing from the neighboring country must land at Incheon International Airport, which serves Seoul, in order to centralize all quarantine mechanisms.
South Korea thus joins other countries such as the US, Japan or Italy that have activated restrictions for travelers from China given the large number of cases in the Asian giant and the fear of introducing new options.
