About 95,000 Ukrainian schoolchildren may remain in Russian-occupied territories at this time.
Since the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the Russians have destroyed 406 educational institutions and damaged more than 2,600. This was announced on Thursday, December 29, by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Vitrenko, Ukrinform writes.
“We have a big loss in the educational infrastructure, which is calculated,” said Vitrenko.
The ministry said there are now 12,902 schools in Ukraine controlled by the government. There are 516,000 school children outside Ukraine, but earlier this number was 620,000.
“We are glad that more than 100,000 children have already returned to Ukraine in the Ukrainian national educational system,” said Vitrenko.
He also added that 95,000 Ukrainian schoolchildren could remain in the territories occupied by the Russians.
Vitrenko noted that 4,967 schools are currently operating online in Ukraine.
