Under the influence of scarcity, fuel becomes the object of all desires. The thirst for diesel or unleaded fuel is such that traffic is making a comeback that looks like it stepped out of the prohibition era. In Val-de-Marne, police surprised five young street vendors between Monday and Tuesday night. At the station in Crete, four of them, aged 19 to 22, offered to sell gasoline on the black market at a prohibitive price of 3.50 euros per liter.
