Monkeypox continues to increase the number of cases. Ministry of Health care (Minsa) reported this Friday that the number of people affected by the disease in Peru has risen to 676, with 23 new cases registered in the last 24 hours.
At the moment, the infected are the capital of Lima (568), the provinces of Lima (5), Callao (45), Ica (3), La Libertad (32), Ancash (2), Arequipa (5), Ucayali (1). , Tacna (1), Loreto (3), Piura (2), Cusco (3), Cajamarca (2), Junin (2), Huanuco (1) and Lambayeque (1).
Ministry of Health care clarified that all patients were receiving care and that 260 people were monkeypox.
“The Ministry of Health reports that 260 people have been discharged due to monkeypox, 23 new cases have been identified, and all are receiving medical care. Their contacts are being traced. Since entering Peru, there are already 676 infected,” the organization’s Twitter post says.
The agency recommends that anyone with a rash or skin lesion call 113 6 or go to the nearest health facility.
Minsa will buy vaccines against the disease
Ministry of Health care announced that Peru would procure monkeypox vaccines together with other member states of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
“Peru expressed its determination that acquisition and distribution be made equitably among countries and welcomed that this be done through the Revolving Fund as the most appropriate mechanism to ensure equitable and supportive access to smallpox vaccines. simica,” Minsa points out in a statement.
The organization added that this purchase will take into account technical, regulatory, programmatic, legal and ethical aspects, as well as availability in the event of a shortage of the vaccine.
Name the new variant as “II”
A group of global experts convened by the World Health Organization (WHO) has agreed on new names for variants of monkeypox virus as part of an ongoing effort to harmonize the names of the disease, the virus and its variations.
Scholars have agreed to call the variants Roman numerals. They thus reached a consensus to now refer to the old Congo Basin (Central Africa) variant as one (I) and the old West African variant as two (II). In addition, it was decided that clade (variant) II consists of two subclades.
The new naming convention for monkeypox thus includes clade I, branch IIa, and branch IIb, with the latter primarily referring to the group of variants widely circulating during the current (2022) global outbreak.
