Health Minister Jorge Lopezthis Sunday called on parents to sign a letter of consent that allows their underage children to be vaccinated against the new coronavirus to prevent complications resulting from infection.
Reminding that schoolchildren will return to classes this Monday, August 8, after the holidays, Lopez said that one way to protect children, especially those aged 5 to 11, is to complete the vaccination schedule against new coronavirus.
Minister of Health pointed out that one point that prevents an increase in vaccination against COVID-19 this group of minors is that the parents do not sign the consent form.
“The critical point for them (children from 5 to 11 years old) is that the permission must be signed by the parents. We send permits and they never come back signed,” he said in press statements.
López noted that there are currently 10 pediatric patients registered with the National Institutes of Children’s Health of Sant Borja and Breña who are being treated for COVID-19.
“We do not expect our children to be in a pediatric intensive care unit. Let’s allow (vaccination of children). This is the only limitation we have. I encourage you (parents) to be aware. We need all this population to be protected,” he said.
The death toll is rising
owner Minsa reported that deaths from COVID-19 have increased in recent weeks, especially among populations that have not received a dose or completed their vaccination schedule.
On the other hand, he argued that the vaccination of this population after the age of 30 is increasing, and that for this the health strategy is strengthened by more local vaccinationhouse sweeping and immunization in health facilities.
“We have enough vaccines. I urge the population to go (for vaccinations). We already have vaccination even in first-aid posts,” he stressed.
Minsa shortens time for fourth dose
Director of Immunization Ministry of Health careMaria Elena Martinez, recalled the recent reduction to four months of the time to receive the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Peru due to the fact that the country is facing the fourth wave of this disease and the cases that reach hospitalization correspond specifically to the elderly.
“We considered it appropriate, in addition to revising National Institutes of Health, Committee of Experts, because we had to care for and protect the elderly. It happened to older people that sometimes they forgot their second and third dose, and the period when they passed and became infected in this fourth wave was very long, ”he explained.
