The Tselong-3 rocket can carry more than 20 satellites in one mission, and the cost will not exceed $10,000 per kilogram.

In China, the debut launch of the commercial rocket Jelong-3 (Smart Dragon-3) took place, putting 14 satellites into orbit. This was reported yesterday by Xinhua news agency.

It is indicated that a four-stage solid-propellant rocket was launched from an offshore platform in the Yellow Sea. She is the second member of the Chinese Dragon missile family. Its total length is 31 meters, the maximum diameter is 2.65 meters, and the weight is 140 tons. Designed for both land and sea launch.

“Jelong-3 has filled many gaps in China’s space industry,” said chief rocket designer Guan Hongren, stressing that it can launch a 1.5-tonne payload into a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit.

According to Jin Xin, chief director of the Jelong-3 project, the advantages of the rocket are a shorter preparation time and a faster response to launches. After its delivery to the planned sea area, the launch can happen within 48 hours.

The rocket, which was unveiled to the public at the Airshow China in November this year, can carry more than 20 satellites in one mission and costs less than $10,000 per kilogram, making it competitive in the market.

China plans to produce 20 Zelong-3 missiles a year and keep three in circulation, ensuring frequent and large-scale launches at sea.

To further meet market demand for commercial space launches, China plans to develop the Jelong-4, a larger solid-propellant rocket that will have a payload capacity of 2.5 tons per sun-synchronous orbit.

It was reported yesterday that China launched the Long March-2D carrier rocket, which launched the Gaofen-5 01A remote sensing satellite into orbit. The device carries a payload in the form of a hyperspectral camera and a wide-range infrared thermal imager.

And last week, China put a crew into orbit for the first time. The Chinese space station Tiangong began operating as a long-term stay for astronauts.
