Huawei continues to reaffirm its research path on the right track, and the watch reinforces what we have already said: obstacles and vetoes have only contributed to the company’s more open decisions. After the successful GT and GT Pro series, at the last MWC, the brand introduced a watch capable of measuring blood pressure. We have tested it and are ready to answer the classic question: Should you buy Huawei Watch D?

Huawei Watch D: this is what you should know
First version. I want to start with this because I don’t want to lose the context of this review in terms of innovation. This is Huawei’s first attempt to replicate a pressure measurement system on this scale, and there are still steps to be taken in portability and design so that the equipment can easily fit into the more commercial smartwatch sector.

This serves as an argument to some extent to explain the excessive size of the Watch D compared to other equipment on the market. wearable devices. We are talking about 40 grams and a noticeable chassis on any wrist, including mine. It is wide, but is on the verge of acceptable, as long as the user has more, let’s say, “contact surface”.

The solid rectangle on the right side displays two interactive buttons, one called HOME and the other HEALTH. Inside, the base combines an array of Huawei sensors for measuring parameters and a wireless charging system.

What I’m really curious about is the equipment’s IP certification. Although we have IP68 to protect the integrity of the watch, the straps do not have that protection against dust and water. If you are going to swim, take off your watch.

Belts are another matter. The Huawei system includes two different games, graded according to the size of the wrist, assigning a specific measurement to the size of the contact area and giving the user a wide margin to choose the right grip, with which we can trigger the measurement mechanism.
This model includes a “airbag” special action. Inside this strap is an airbag with a mini pump that inflates and deflates the airbag and allows you to use an oscilloscope to recognize systole and diastole.

The accuracy set by Huawei for D watches is +- 3mmHg. Art. compared to the final measurement. Combined with Huawei’s TruBP blood algorithms, the team determines if the measurement position is incorrect or if micro-adjustment of the straps is required to trigger the mechanism.

In short, it takes less than 40 seconds to use this system, which requires only putting your hand at shoulder level and relaxing your body. By starting the mechanism and automatically inflating the airbag, we will feel how the belt increases the compression to the point that it becomes something intense. Calm down, it’s harmless. After a few seconds, the metric will appear on the screen, and you will archive it in the application.

Quantification on another level. It’s a system complemented by the Huawei Health app and its classic tools under Harmony OS 2 – yes, you have to install Huawei services on your phone to use the device – with which you’ll have a general map of your health. This generation of Huawei TruBP sensors has already performed well in GT versions, but now they are supplemented with ECG and blood pressure data.
What I do not like. One could go further, but the hardware works like other Huawei watches: the same interface, the same tools, the same number of installation steps. The obvious problem is that hardly anyone needs such a watch.

I explain. We are facing the first step in finding precise control tools that fit into a small space, and this team is doing it. However, it is far from the aesthetic and functional standard of today’s market. No one needs that much equipment on their wrist all day long.

However, it’s good to see a promising future ahead of us, where technology will find a way to adapt this solution to a more portable and user-friendly form factor.
clear autonomy. With all these features – come on, you’re pumping up a bag – the equipment is capable of maintaining an autonomy of 5 to 7 days. Wireless charging provides the watch from 0 to 100 inches… and power consumption may vary depending on the use of tools such as ECG or blood pressure.
Huawei Watch D Is it worth it?

Here the problem is inevitable. As a clock, the operating system is a bit slower than other clocks. The GT 3 Pro could be the best buy for any user. It is this argument that should determine the need for this item: who should buy it?
Let’s start with the fact that there are relatives who could have the opportunity to have pressure measurements at any time of the day and have an idea of how they are doing. Be careful, Huawei confirms that this is not a medical instrument and that the results should be taken as nothing more than a guide.

So is it normal that these watches exist? Yes, as the first step towards optimization. Will it be worth getting? For this difference, we could bet on our own blood pressure monitor at home. However, I’m happy to see the will of Huawei in uncharted territory, in which the next generations are called upon to improve the size and comfort of watches. This is more than a product that can be bought today, it is a format that is worth paying attention to tomorrow.
However, it’s cheaper than the Apple Watch.
