Pensions. why should france invest a capitalization dose?

With an aging population and longer lives, funded pension systems, where working people save through pension funds to fund their future retirement, offer many advantages, the OECD said in its 2023 report on pensions, published on Thursday.

In France, which has opted for a pay-as-you-go system where active people contribute to paying the pensions of current retirees, capitalization remains underdeveloped. Only civil servants under the Supplementary Civil Service Scheme (RAFP) benefit from it. Thanks to this scheme, which has been in place since 1 January 2005, around 4.5 million agents are saving for their supplementary pension.

Pharmacists also benefit from a scheme that is both paid and funded, which currently accounts for 50% of the pensions paid to retired pharmacists.
