Chinese company Xpeng presented his first trip flying taxi called Expeng X3which plans to enter the market in 2024.

In the video shown, the company shows the car leaving the garage, taking off and landing vertically, one of the first tests of this time for the Asian company.

Soaring in the sky

In the video, the X3 takes off, flies forward, floats a bit and spins in place before returning to the launch pad.

This vehicle belongs to the category VTOL, differs from other projects in that it looks like a regular car, but with drone propellers attached to the roof. Its operation also allows it to be driven like a traditional car.

“Designed for both air and road travel, the flying car is conveniently equipped with a sleek rotor folding system for a seamless transition between driving and flying,” the company said in a press release.

there are more obstacles

Xpeng designed the X3 to “fly over traffic jams, obstacles and rivers to meet a new set of short distance mobility needs”.

Its cars are expected to start selling to the public from 2024 in Chinese cities.

Just a few weeks ago, an earlier X2 prototype also passed one of its first tests in Dubai.

This model has no wheels and is fully electric, which allows you to carry two passengers inside. It will aim to cross the sky over cities at a speed of 130 km/h at a thousand meters altitude and will not need a driver: it will move only with the help of buttons.

Several other startups, including TCab Tech and China’s AutoFlight, are exploring low-altitude urban flight or global urban air mobility. According to Morgan Stanley, a market that could reach $1 trillion by 2040.
