Huawei is still active in the world of smartphones, although far from the rhythms it was in before the commercial blockade imposed by the United States. Despite the restrictions, the Chinese brand is announcing the Mate 50 in a few days, and a “foldable” surprise is expected in this announcement: a possible P50 Pocket variant for 2022.
According to documents filed with the China Telecommunications Certification Agency (TENAA), this new Huawei foldable device resembles the P50 Pocket and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip with a toad-like format.
In doing so, the papers credit the BAL-AL80 (team name) with a 6.9-inch flexible OLED screen and a 21:9 aspect ratio, in addition to supporting up to 120Hz refresh rates.
Huawei is not ditching mobile phones
This new smartphone, according to TENAA certification, includes a combination of three photo lenses on the back: a 40MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle lens, and possibly a 32MP UV spectrum camera, like on the P50 Pocket for solar reference. radiation.

There is no indication that the camera system includes Xmage technology, a new development by Huawei since the end of its collaboration with Leica in 2022.
In addition to the absence of the P50 Pocket’s round screen, this new Huawei will also not carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor under the case, but will be a “stripped down” version of the 778 to make the hardware compatible with 4G networks.

Cheaper “foldable”
No pricing details, but the drop in this hardware is clear compared to the 2021 Pocket. For starters, eliminating the screen and using a Qualcomm 7-series processor is already leading us to a lower price.
Also, the finishes seem to be geared towards traditional glass rather than the standards of the P50 series, which added embossed motifs under the glass of both covers. In addition, a larger selection of colors on the bottom cover may lead us to believe that this is a smartphone aimed at a younger audience.

Harmony OS on Huawei phones
The only spec listed on the TENAA-approved datasheet is the battery capacity, set at 4260mAh, which is less than the P50 Pocket.
Also, being hardware that can only be announced for China, it is likely that they already have the ability to run HarmonyOS 3, a new version of the operating system owned by Huawei and announced in 2019 in response to a US veto. government and the inability to use Android by Google.
There are no official announcements about Huawei and the new line of foldable devices, especially in connection with the September event dedicated to the Mate line. However, this won’t be the first time the Chinese brand has used the “Mate” event to update the options of the P saga.
