The space station will eventually form a T-shaped structure that China plans to use for at least a decade.
The Chinese space agency CNSA, using a camera on an autonomous manipulator, released footage of the Tiangong station. Space reported it.
Currently, the Tiangong space station consists of two modules. The ten-meter-long robotic arm, which was launched alongside the Tianhe core module in April 2021, is equipped with a camera that allows it to scan and inspect the station’s exterior. This includes the new Wentian module, which joined Tianhe in orbit this past July.
The video shows the solar panels that power the station, as well as the gyroscopes that control the station’s position as it orbits Earth. Seas and clouds are also visible for about 380 km. Sometimes you can also see the Shenzhou-14 spacecraft, which was brought into orbit by the current Tiangong crew of Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xiuzhe.
During the inspection, the state of the station was assessed. At the same time, the autonomous arm confirmed that the new module is ready to be transferred from the forward port of the space station’s docking port to the side port, where Wentian will be permanently docked.
Wentian will be moved to its designated docking port ahead of the launch of the third and final module, Mengtian, scheduled for October.
It was previously reported that China launched into space a satellite designed for remote sensing of the Earth.
