UK electricity prices to rise by 80%

By the end of this year, the average electricity bill will rise to £3,550, more than $4,200 a year.

In Britain, electricity prices will increase by 80% from October 1. This was announced by the Mritan electricity price regulator Ofgem, Euronews reported on Friday, August 26.

Whereas the national average household used to pay around £2,000 a year, or $2,373, by the end of this year, the average electricity bill will rise to £3,550, more than $4,200.

It is indicated that such a serious increase in the cost of electricity in the UK will significantly increase the total household spending on basic consumer goods, despite the fact that inflation in the country has already exceeded 10%.

“The government will be forced to present to parliament a draft package of social assistance for the population, whose purchasing power is falling,” the statement said.

Recall that in Germany electricity prices for the first time in history rose to 700 euros per MWh. This price level is approximately 14 times higher than the seasonal average over the past five years.
