As the scientists noted, the findings at Kalambo Falls were preserved due to flooding and lack of oxygen.
Researchers have discovered on the banks of a river that borders Zambia and Tanzania the remains of a wooden structure that predates modern humans. The Guardian reported this.
The structure consists of two wooden logs carved with stone tools found nearby. Scientists believe it may be part of a pathway or platform.
According to scientists, it may be at least 476 thousand years old. The structure itself may have been built by the Heidelberg man, who is considered the predecessor of modern humans.
When I first saw it, I thought it wasn’t real. Wood and stone indicate a high level of intelligence, technological skill and planning. The platform can be used as a place to store things, firewood or food. where you can sit and do something. You can put a little canopy over the top and sleep there,” said Larry Barham, an archaeologist at the University of Liverpool.
It is noteworthy that the building was found near the Kalambo waterfall. In 2019, archaeologists discovered a digging stick at this site, dating to approximately 390,000 years ago.
