Computer scientist and former Google engineer, Ray Kurzweilmade an interesting prediction: he believes that people will be able to dream of immortality from the next decade.
A technology is currently being developed for it that can achieve this goal: nanorobots.
Kurzweiul and the purpose of eternal life
Kurzewil’s statements were made in his book The Singularity Is Near, published in 2005. Now they’re back in the discussion thanks to a documentary published by tech YouTuber Adagio.
In his text, he predicted that technology would enable humans to achieve eternal life by 2030. He also stated that the current advances and expansion seen in genetics, robotics and nanotechnology will allow people to nanorobots run through our veins in the near future.
Kurzweil had previously suggested that in less than a decade, humans would create technology to fight aging and disease using microscopic robots sent to repair our bodies at the cellular level. And indeed, medical engineers are currently rapidly working on these disease-fighting bots.
He also claims that such nanotechnology will allow people to eat whatever they want while remaining lean and energetic.
” nanorobots in the digestive tract and bloodstream, they will intelligently extract exactly the nutrients we need, call for the extra nutrients and supplements needed through our personal wireless LAN, and send the rest of the food we eat on its way to being eliminated. Blog post from 2003.
Meanwhile, Silicon Valley billionaires, including Peter Thiel and Jeff Bezos, have paid great attention to Kurzweil’s predictions, devoting their careers to developing technologies that will allow people to live to a hundred years.
Several hits to his credit
Ray Kurzweil He has already made several predictions even with a margin of years.
Among a long list, he accurately predicted that by 1999, consumers would be able to design their own clothing to exact measurements and style requirements from their home computers; that the best chess player in the world will lose to a computer in the year 2000; that by 2009 people will mostly be using laptops of all sizes and shapes; and that by 2010 most of the world will have permanent high-speed wireless Internet access.
“2029 is the exact date I predicted when AI will pass a valid test for [Alan] Turing, Kurzweil said. Futurism in 2017, referring to experiments that make computers think like us, “and therefore reach human levels of intelligence.” However, LaMDA and CHGPT have already surpassed it to this day.
But his book has another goal: the singularity.
“I set a date of 2045 for the Singularity, when we multiply our effective intelligence by one billion, merging with the intelligence [artificial] we created,” emphasizes the author, inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2002.
