Dogs can improve the health of their owners – scientists

The study helped to understand how pets affect the well-being of older people.

Scientists have discovered in a new study that dogs can improve the health of their owners. It was reported by MDPI.

So, for eight years, experts talked by phone with study participants who were at least 65 years old. They answered questions such as whether they had walked their dog, and if so, how many times and what was the average length of the walk in the past two weeks, and also described the state of their own health.

“The study is unique because it explores for the first time the potential benefits of pet ownership in a long-term sample of older people balanced by gender, race and geographic location, allowing us to investigate whether the potential benefits of pet ownership differ in later life according to these individual characteristics.” said study author Amy Albright.

As a result, pet owners reported feeling better and going for walks more often than non-pet owners.

It was previously reported that in England, veterinarians have learned that a kitten is neither male nor female.
