The Russian government has included information that “promotes non-traditional sexual relations and (or) preferences, pedophilia, gender reassignment” in the list of content banned on the Russian Internet. The corresponding order was published on the official Internet portal of legal information on Monday, December 26.
As follows from the decree, such information will be considered prohibited along with materials, including the use and manufacture of drugs, suicide methods, the manufacture of weapons and explosives.
Roskomnadzor is responsible for including so-called “LGBT propaganda” in the register and blocking it.
A law banning “LGBT propaganda”, pedophilia and gender reassignment among people of all ages was signed into law by Russian President Vladimir Putin in December. According to the amendments, such information will be completely banned in social networks, books, media, songs, movies, advertising and video games.
Fines of up to 10 million rubles are issued for violations
According to new amendments to the administrative code, violation of the ban on “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” faces a fine of 50,000 to 400,000 rubles for citizens, from 100,000 to 800,000 for officials, and from 800,000 to 5 million activities up to 90 days – for legal entities.
For violation of the ban on “propaganda of pedophilia”, the fine is from 200,000 to 800,000 rubles for citizens, from 400,000 to 2 million for officials, from 1 million to 10 million rubles or suspension of activities for up to 90 days for legal entities.
For distributing information to minors “that they may want to change their sex”, the fine is from 50 thousand to 200 thousand rubles for citizens, from 100 thousand to 400 thousand – for officials, from 800 thousand to 4 million rubles or suspension of activities up to 90 days – for legal entities.
