Ricardo Marquez, former Vice President of the Republic and former President National Society of Industry (SNI)in dialogue with RPP Newsadvocated leaving Hannibal Torres Chairman of the Council of Ministers (PCM), announced yesterday his resignation from office.

“I have been to several meetings with him because I have been in SNI for 4 years and the truth is that I waited for it to come out because I couldn’t take it anymore.”, he pointed out.

He also stressed that the outgoing prime minister “knows his job”but which, in his opinion, failed to trace “the country’s path to progress in terms of creating jobs, striving to unite workers, businessmen.”

“The country practically fled without any authority. This is what I felt as a citizen and as a trade union leader,” he said.

“There was no dialogue”

Regarding Aníbal Torres’ leadership in PCM, Marquez noted that never had a call establishing obligations between the government and the business community for the benefit of the country.

“There has never been a meeting where government commitment to (together with) the business community and that we were looking for it (…) Plain and simple, they happened supreme decrees with which we, as businessmen, do not agree,” he said.

Márquez believed that Torres did not understand the dynamics of the economy at the present time, and that in this sense he had not established dialogues in the context of the world context.

“The truth is that there has never been such a dialogue. a government that sees what is happening in the world. We have always said that Peru is more than 60% dependent on the world and therefore there must be interlocutors who can assimilate what is happening and how what is happening affects us,” he explained.

Along the same lines, he argued that economies such as the Chilean and Colombian have maintained economic growth this year despite the global crisis because “rule of the country, power” unlike the Peruvian case.

On the other hand, Marquez said that, most likely, the new prime minister will be chosen from among those close to the executive branch.

“Unfortunately, knowing something about what is happening with the president (…), he’s going to reach out to his people he knows 100%. This is a course that did not work because ministers do not have such a profile,” he said.

With this in mind, he asked the President to take into account the proposals of the National Convention in order to select competent officials.

“I think the president should look beyond his executive committee of the Council of Ministers. I would advise him to take a look at what is proposed in the National Agreement. The National Convention proposed a cabinet of consensus, and the Church asked for the same. (…) If you put in a consensus cabinet, it will be much better for the president,” he stressed.
