The government has delivered more than 26,000 shelter kits to vulnerable people in nine regions of the country as part of Multi-sectoral frost and freeze plan 2022-2024.
The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Groups (MIMP) is responsible for acquiring asylum kits and the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for distributing them. This season, 65,864 sets of outerwear are scheduled to be delivered to 43,489 boys and girls aged 0-5 and 22,375 seniors aged 65 and over from 65 districts in Peru.
The distribution of these packages takes place in 18 cold zones and 47 frost zones in 30 provinces of the regions of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huanuco, Junin, Madre de Dios, Pasco, Puno and Ucayali.
The warm set includes a long-sleeved jumpsuit in polar fabric, a hat, a scarf, and a quilted thermal fleece blanket for boys and girls from 0 to 2 years old. For children under two to five years old in frosty areas, this is a lined fleece jumper, as well as a two-piece jumper (jacket and pants).
For children of the same age group from cold areas, the kit includes a fleece jumper and a two-piece jumper (shirt and pants). In the case of the elderly, it contains a jacket and fleece pants.
Water, housing and vaccines
For its part, the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS) has distributed over 13,000 safe water kits through Foncodes, as well as 9,550 improved stoves.
For Sumaq Wasi bioclimatic houses, the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation has completed 5,685 houses that provide thermal comfort to the same number of families in 12 regions of the country. Through their design, these houses help capture daytime heat and store it at night, protecting and improving the quality of life for very resource-poor families in rural areas.
In turn, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, within the framework of the Agro-Rural Program, supplied 2775 sets for foliar feeding; 672 feed preservation kits; 19,319 veterinary kits and 131 shelters.
The Ministry of Health (Minsa), for its part, has immunized over 48,446 children against influenza and over 28,000 children against pneumococcus. While more than 88,000 older people have already been vaccinated against influenza and more than 7,600 against pneumococcus.
As part of this plan, the Government is taking multi-sectoral and targeted action to protect the physical integrity and livelihoods of more than two million Peruvians in a timely manner as they struggle with the low temperatures that affect their homes.
