Maria del Carmen Alva, outgoing president Congress of the Republic, drew sharp criticism in the last few hours after the approval of Agreement No. 110-2021-2022/MESA-CR became known. The measure specifies that she and the rest of the board members will retain their benefits for up to six months after leaving office.
A norm that would allow the still head of parliament to have a non-commissioned officer of the National Police of Peru (PNP) per shift as additional security officers to those assigned to each parliamentarian. In addition to other transportation benefits.
The document substantiates this decision by the fact that benefits for members have been approved since 2009 Board of Directors when they complete their administration, and that it does not require a plenary session of Parliament to be approved. Lady Camones Soriano, as First Vice President; Enrique Wong Pujada as Second Vice President; and Patricia Chirinos Venegas, as third vice president, will also benefit from the agreement.
Lady Camones refused the benefits granted
In a formal letter addressed to Alva, the first president of the Congress, Lady Camones, refused these benefits “because she did not consider it necessary for me personally.”
Benefits include a non-commissioned officer, a car, and gasoline for the former President of Congress and other Vice Presidents of the Board of Directors.
So far, it is the only one of the current board of directors that has made a decision on the issue of canceling these benefits.
Congress speaks out after criticism
The Congress of the Republic assured in its statement that the agreement of the Board of Directors extending the benefits to Maria del Carmen Alva, Lady Camones, Enrique Wong and Patricia Chirinos six months linked to alleged death threats against the President and the Third Vice President of Parliament.
The document also points out that these benefits originally extended to a period of one year, but they have reduced this to six months and that the collateral agreement is given not only in Congress but also in ministries, where even portfolio holders continue to enjoy benefits. even if they are censored.
“To these threats are added the demonstrations of aggression near the house of the President of the Congress, which were condemned by all benches and deserved the solidarity of all political circles,” the statement said.
