[/embed]‘>Production Commission discussed the forecast of the new General Fisheries Act. However, no consensus on the vote was reached due to congressmen’s observations, and the matter will be taken to the next legislature.
Despite the fact that an agreement on the approval of the draft was not reached, the parliamentarians in the previous question proposed the creation of a working group to continue the analysis of the alternative text of the prediction.
The reason was that they questioned the specifications of the measure, where they stated their position on the need for further review of this document and warned that this would not have a greater impact on artisanal fishing.
For this reason, they requested a preliminary question for the creation of a working group to continue the analysis of the text.
The mentioned request was approved, and therefore the next meeting of the Production Commission, which will be held in August, should adopt a new law with the comments eliminated.
It is important to note that today’s meeting, Monday, was also attended by 8 representatives of handicraft and fishing unions, where five of them were against predictions and three they showed up in favor.
Even the handicraft fishermen were out of Congress in the morning to ask for the approval of a new General Fisheries Act.
What did the law suggest?
congressman Jaime Quito (Perú Libre), president of the Congressional Production Commission, explained in RPP News what are the most important points of the new General Fisheries Law. First of all, the parliamentarian mentioned that the new law is intended to guarantee the reproduction of hydrobiological resources, for which unlimited compliance with 5 nautical miles for artisanal fishing is being considered. Similarly, it is proposed to establish the frequency of granting fishing permits. On the other hand, the initiative aims to limit the exemption from fines.
Quito Sarmiento also pointed out that in the current General Fisheries Law there are completely ambiguous rules that do not allow for proper control of various types of fisheries, especially trawl fishing, carried out within 5 nautical miles and which has created serious problems for the ecosystem of our sea. For this reason, it is believed that “sanctions are not a subjective issue, but an objective one.”
