The transport unions – about 3 million carriers – have declared an indefinite strike since Monday, July 4, due to the lack of a government decision on their list of demands. Giovani Diez, President of the Association for Transport and Logistics (GTL), indicated that the change of minister had an impact on the dialogue processes.
“The number of demands received since November has accumulated. None of the issues (34) was resolved by the executive branch, despite the fact that protocols were signed with us signed by the majority of ministers, and so far we have not had an answer to all these signed protocols and transport problems,” he said. .
In dialogue with RPP newsthe leader commented on this at a meeting with the minister of transport, John BarranzuelaOn May 30, he was told that the only alternative to canceling the July 4 carrier strike scheduled for July 4 was to present decrees to meet the demands of this sector.
He also explained that freight transport, urban transport, tourist transport, collective cars, taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, river transport, as well as local and foreign drivers were added to this measure. He added that all of these conditions are part of a union alliance of more than 380 unions across the country.
REQUIREMENT
The leader explained that during the strike, which will take place on July 4, one sector will hold an “engine shutdown” and the other will hold peaceful marches at various institutions at the national level. Regarding the possible blockade of highways, he said that these are the actions of “infiltrators who are trying to confuse the population by blaming the carrier.”
Diez also emphasized his request to declare a state of emergency in transport sector at the national level so that the requirements of this clause can be met. He reiterated that the only way to sit down and talk to the government about ending the strike was to publish resolutions guaranteeing attention to their requests.
