Interior Minister Vicente Romero spoke out on Monday about the no-confidence vote and said he had no problem leaving the sector as he accepted the results of the interrogations he was subjected to in Congress.
In press statements during a public appearance, Romero indicated that throughout his life he kept the law, so if he is censored in parliament I would not object to this decision.
“I answered all the questions in the three interpellations they gave me and the result I should have done. I have been a citizen all my life, I have kept the law, and if I have to leave the interior sector, I will have to leave it, I have no problem,” he said.
In the same vein, he declared that, if his censorship continued, he would become the tenth minister to leave office just a short period after the start of Pedro Castillo’s rule. He also clarified that at the beginning of his reign he found a “practically paralyzed ministry.”
Vote of no confidence
On March 22, deputies from various benches submitted a no-confidence motion to Interior Minister Vicente Romero for “bearing political responsibility for the abuse of power” during the March 21 police intervention at San Marcos National University. January.
“Censor the Lord Vincent Romero FernandezMinister of the Interior, holding him politically responsible for the abuse of power and disproportionate use of force by the Peruvian National Police during the intervention carried out at the National University of the Mayor of San Marcos on January 21, 2023, indicating a lack of leadership and lack of fitness to lead the sector located in under his control,” the petition reads.
Among its arguments, the movement recalls that on the morning of Saturday, January 21, police officers entered the National University of the Mayor of San Marcos with tanks to evict protesters from different regions of the country.
They also mentioned that the university rejected an intervention “which caused material damage to infrastructure and caused physical and psychological harm to the community of residents.”
