The Hollywood actor was finally cleared of charges of accidentally killing Ukrainian cameraman Galina Hutchins. The US Attorney’s Office withdrew the appeal, closing the case.
Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has been officially cleared of all charges of involuntary manslaughter of Ukrainian cameraman Galina Hutchins, who tragically died on the set of the movie Rust in 2021, Reuters reports.
Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey withdrew the appeal, which could continue to consider the case, which finally confirmed that the actor was innocent.
In July 2024, all charges against Baldwin were dropped, and the case was closed due to irregularities in the investigation. The actor’s defenders emphasized that this confirms what they have said all along: that Hutchins’ death was a terrible tragedy and that Alec Baldwin did not commit a crime.
Let’s recall that the tragedy occurred during the filming of Rust, when a prop weapon, safe in itself, came out loaded with a live cartridge. The investigation revealed that part of the evidence was hidden, which became the basis for closing the case due to the bias of the investigation.
After the manslaughter, Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison. However, he was found innocent.
It was previously reported that the mother of Ukrainian cameraman Galina Hutchins, who tragically died during the filming of Rust in 2021, refused to attend the film’s premiere.
