By stating that it was “The Last Supper” by Leonardo Da Vinci, we are repeating common acts from the beginning of this religion.
The worldwide error surrounding the painting depicted at the opening of the 2024 Olympics in Paris shows a victory for Christianity. By claiming that it was “The Last Supper” by Leonardo Da Vinci, we are repeating common acts from the beginning of this religion, when statues of Apollo were toppled in Greece, making way for the emerging figure of Jesus.
The painting shown at the opening of the Olympics, with a totally queer configuration, is “The Feast of the Gods”, by Jan van Bijlert, which features the god Apollo at the center. On top of the table was Dionysus, painted blue. The Christian influence throughout the world is so strong that we put the god of wine as a possible attendee of the most famous Christian dinner. It was Dionysus, not a chalice.
Overcome with emotion at seeing trans women, drag queens, lesbians, gays, non-binary people and all kinds of diversity, we set our minds to searching for the first reference to that scene. And it was the Last Supper, much newer in the history of humanity than Dionysus.
Banquets are a strong tradition in Greek mythology. They are a time of celebration and, in the painting that is actually depicted, of diversity among these gods themselves. Plato has a wonderful book with the same name, which also talks about knowledge. Dante Alighieri also wrote this book.
But Jesus continues to be the gold medal in the human imagination. He managed to erase from references, or at least put in second place, figures much older than him. Just think that we live in a world that counts the days and years “after Christ”.
It was a general error that only served to feed conservatives, those people who live by encouraging hatred, controversy, everything to maintain a flock full of God’s lambs. It also served as another lesson about responsibility in information, respect for the public.
No one seems to have escaped this error. Luiz Felipe Pondé, a columnist for “Folha de S. Paulo”, wrote an article based on the idea that the Last Supper was the scene depicted. He took advantage of the text, full of certainties (his own), to mix it up with Islam and inflame religious conflicts. Jesus even overthrew Allah!
Christianity is now celebrating one of its most important achievements, worthy of a gold medal. Even when they try to speak ill of it, it doesn’t work. It has become the talk of the town without even being part of history. Zeus doesn’t seem to have a say in Jesus.
