The sessions will be held at Reserva Cultural, Circuito Spcine Lima Barreto (São Paulo Cultural Center), Cine Satyros Bijou, Nave Coletiva, Circuito Spcine Centro de Formação Cultural Cidade Tiradentes and 15 units of Circuito Spcine located in CEUs. Admission is free.
The event, which is open to invited guests, will open on July 31 with a screening of the award-winning “The Fire Within: A Requiem for Katia and Maurice Krafft” by Werner Herzog, which will also be shown during the show. One of the main attractions is the Climate Emergency Special, which will feature films such as “Razing Liberty Square” by Katja Esson, “Children of Katrina” by Edward Buckles Jr., and “Once You Know” by Emmanuel Cappelin.
The international lineup includes titles selected for renowned festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, Rotterdam, Locarno and Tribeca. Highlights include “Antarctica: Magnetic Continent” by Luc Jacquet, “Common Ground” with Woody Harrelson and Jason Momoa, and “Union” by Brett Story and Stephen Maing, which marks the first unionization of an Amazon workplace in the US. Other highlights include the children’s animation “Yakari, A Fantastic Journey” and the award-winning “Water is Life” by Will Parrinello, with the participation of Mexican actor Diego Luna.
The Historical Exhibition will present classic works by Latin American filmmakers such as “De Certa Maneira” (1977), by Sara Gómez, “Araya” (1959), by Margot Benacerraf, and “Love, Women and Flowers” (1984), by Marta Rodríguez and Jorge Silva, the latter shown at the Cannes Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival.
The national program will feature films by directors such as Wolney Oliveira, Vicente Ferraz, Graciela Guarani, Otávio Cury, Tatiana Toffoli and Aurélio Michiles, with appearances by Gaby Amarantos, Rolando Boldrin, Davi Kopenawa and Ailton Krenak. Conversations with directors are planned, including “There’s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch”, by Marcos Nepomuceno and Pedro Charbel (August 4), and “Amazon, Archaeology of the Forest – Episode 1 (Season 2) Terra Preta”, by Tatiana Toffoli (August 7).
The new feature this year is the competitive exhibition “Territories and Memory Competition”, with 27 titles including Brazilian feature films and short films from 11 states and the Federal District. Among those selected are “À Margem do Ouro”, by Sandro Kakabadze, “Anhangabaú”, by Lufe Bollini, and “Favela do Papa”, by Marco Antonio Pereira.
The event also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Socioenvironmental Institute (ISA) with a film series, children’s sessions and a series of debates on topics such as artificial intelligence, activism, climate emergency and labor rights. The 1st Meeting “Sustainability in the Audiovisual Industry” is also part of the program.
