Event at CCBB in Belo Horizonte combines ballroom culture with June traditions in celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride
On Friday (June 28), International LGBTQIA+ Pride Day will be celebrated with a contest of choreography and poses at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), located at Praça da Liberdade, 450 – Escritores. Starting at 6pm, the Central-South Region of Belo Horizonte will host a vogue battle based on ballroom culture, a notable artistic expression of the North American LGBT community in the 1980s. Entrance to the event is free and no registration is required. advance ticket collection.
Participants will compete in four categories that mix traditional ballroom elements with references to June festivals. The categories are: ‘baby vogue – elegant mail’, ‘fashion killa – patchwork’, ‘vogue OTA – Cowboy Carter’ and ‘runway – country road’. The public is invited to interact with the presentations and act as a jury, as the audience’s opinion will be fundamental in choosing the winners.
The production and artistic body of the event are the responsibility of House of DuBeco, a collective from Belo Horizonte founded in Aglomerado da Serra. The group integrates references from ballroom culture in the United States, such as vogue dancing and competitions between teams of dancers, with agendas and demands from LGBTQIA+, black and peripheral youth in Brazil.
The event promises a vibrant night, full of artistic expressions that celebrate the diversity and history of the LGBTQIA+ community. Vogue competitions, in addition to entertaining, rescue and preserve the rich ballroom culture, providing visibility and appreciation for the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community over the decades.
