Entitled “Elã Ancestral”, Pajuball 2024 will feature 12 categories that pay homage to figures, movements and spaces of resistance, celebrating Brazilian LGBTQIAPN+ ancestry. In addition to the competitions, the event will have a pocket show by Maranhão artist Enme, who will present her new work, “Atabake Deluxe”. The album mixes rhythms such as electro, cyberfunk, house, afrobeat and amapiano, exploring futurism and ancestral technology, elevating pop from the Amazon region to a global level.
The night’s soundtrack will be provided by DJs King Zion and Maia Caos, both from São Paulo. The jury will be made up of important names from the ballroom scene, including Trailblazer Yagaga (CE), Trailblazer Mother Kona Zion (DF), Mother Juju Ninja (RJ), Int Prince Luky Revlon (RJ) and Overseer Aru Oricci (DF).
The name “Pajuball” is a fusion of two LGBTQIAPN+ languages: Ballroom Culture, which emerged in Harlem at the hands of black and Latin trans and transvestite leaders, and Pajubá, a dialect created by transvestites in Brazil during the military dictatorship. Since its first edition in 2019, Pajuball has established itself as an essential event for the Brazilian Ballroom scene, highlighting leaders from different regions and promoting diversity and inclusion.
Pajuball at Casa Natura Musical: June 29th, from 9pm to 4am
