The Parada Preta 2024 program begins on June 23rd with training activities in Casa 1, and continues throughout the week, culminating on June 30th with the Parada Preta electric trio that will tour the region of the Republic. The trio will follow the streets of the center of São Paulo, passing through Praça da República, Avenida São Luiz and Teatro Municipal, ending at Largo do Paissandu, next to the Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos Church. This closing event celebrates the pride of the black LGBTQIAPN+ community with lots of music and festivities.
The first Black Pride took place in 1991, in Washington, and inspired other black communities in different parts of the world, including São Paulo. The Black Parade in Brazil was created by Coletivo Amem in 2017, with the aim of addressing the specific demands of the black community, promoting education about HIV/AIDS, sexuality, gender, health, violence and housing. The event is a vital platform for the ongoing fight for the rights of black and LGBTQIAPN+ people, promoting spaces for reflection and discussion through art.
Di Almeida, educator at Casa 1, highlights the importance of the training carried out during the Black Parade. “The formation of Parada Preta is a very important highlight on the agenda, as it provides a vital space for collective encounter and the promotion of diverse ideas within the black LGBTQIAPN+ community. This initiative expands our understanding of collective learning and strengthens our ability to create strategies that are not only for the present, but also for the future,” he says.
