The presenter spoke about LGBTQIAPN+ representation and his marriage with his work partner, Fiih
For over 10 years on the internet, Edu Camargo and your husband, Fiih OliveiraDiva Despiração, has accumulated almost 1 million followers on social media and more than 3.2 million subscribers on her Yotube channel.
In an interview with iG QueerEdu spoke about changes on the internet, representation in the LGBTQIAPN+ community and his marriage to Fiih.
“I see the internet today as a platform of constant change. We try to keep up, but obviously we also choose (which platforms to work on)”, he said, who currently presents the reality show Corrida das Blogueiras in partnership with his husband and Dia Estúdio, in addition to content for other social networks.
“Our ‘marriage’ with Dia Estúdio worked very well because they also have this culture of doing new things every year”, continued.
Like a large part of the LGBTQIAPN+ community, Edu was also a victim of homophobia, especially during elementary school: “I suffered a lot of bullying because I was already more effeminate, but I also didn’t really understand (sexuality).”
“When I was pre-adolescent, I understood that I was gay, but I still didn’t want to accept it. When I went to high school, in a public school, between 2003 and 2004, I lived with all kinds of people. I wasn’t able to come out right away, but I managed to feel a little more comfortable wearing different clothes, wearing my hair in a different way, putting on glasses.”said.
“There I was able to feel a little freer, because even the straightest boys who hung out together, they didn’t mess with us, because the environment was very diverse”he completed.
The influencer recognizes that the couple is an example for the people who follow them, but states that they are far from “wanting to represent everyone.”
“I think it is a huge burden to place yourself as a representative of a community. We are far from being a perfect couple, we have our problems, we have our fights, we have our differences, so it is the life of an ordinary couple. We try to show this in the most natural way possible”, he spoke.
Edu and Fiih have been together for over 14 years and the presenter said that he tries to bring the realism of their relationship to the internet and stated that he and Fiih have “very good days, very good phases and days when we are fighting, days when We don’t agree.”
“I grew up in an all straight family, watching my uncles’ weddings, and our wedding is very similar […] We still work together, so it’s an aggravating factor”, continued.
“You fight in the middle of work, we each go our separate ways, because today the house is big, but we need to sort out the work, it’s our work, so it’s often difficult, but I think therapy has improved our coexistence a lot. . We also respect each other’s space a lot”, he added.
“Each relationship is different, and I think I only have this long relationship because it’s with Felipe. Maybe if it had been a different person it wouldn’t have lasted so long. Is very difficult”, continued.
“We went through a breakup before we even started with Diva Depression and we were separated for almost five months before we understood that we really wanted to get back together. Apart from this breakup, we often fought and thought: ‘Let’s end everything, we can’t do it anymore’. After the ‘dust settles’, we see that it wasn’t quite like that. We love eachother”concluded.
