Frida Kahlo’s letter commenting on Diego Rivera’s betrayals went viral on the web
A letter from Frida Kahlo about the betrayals of Diego Rivera, to whom she was married, went viral on social media and left internet users shocked. The text, which circulates on online platforms, was written in 1953, a year before the painter’s death.
“I’m not afraid of pain, and you know that. It’s almost inherent in me, but I confess that I suffered, a lot, when you betrayed me, every time you betrayed me, not only with my sister, but with so many other women. How did they let themselves be deceived by you?”, wrote the artist in the text that appeared in Contigo! magazine.
In the text, Frida made a point of emphasizing that she was not shaken by a specific betrayal, but by the entire situation of Diego’s extramarital relationships.
“You think I became possessed because of Cristina, but today I confess that it wasn’t because of her. It was because of you and me. First of all, for me, because I could never understand what you wanted and were looking for, what they gave you that I didn’t know how to give. Let’s not fool ourselves, Diego, I gave you everything that is humanly possible to give, and we both know that. Anyway, how can you seduce so many women when you’re such an ugly son of a bitch?” shot.
The painter also reinforced that she did not want to leave Diego with a feeling of guilt, but rather, end their relationship.
“I’m writing to let you know that I’m releasing you, I’m amputating you. Be happy and never look for me again. I don’t want to hear from you, I don’t want you to hear from me. If there’s one thing I would like before I die, it would be to not have to see your horrible fucking bastard wandering around my garden.”, she wrote.
