A correct and balanced diet provides numerous health benefits. It is very common to hear that a healthy table should contain the widest variety of colors possible, and most of these colors are present in fruits. Therefore, at any time of the year, they are extremely important.
“Most of the colors in food come from fruits, which offer vitamins and minerals not manufactured by the body, but which are essential for adequate nutrition and the proper functioning of the body”, explains nutritionist Gabriela Marcelino.
Benefits for the body
Fruits are rich in soluble and insoluble fibers, which play an important role in good intestinal functioning and in improving the cholesterol profile, when consumed within a balanced diet.
Nutritionist Tatiane Melo da Costa points out yet another quality of these foods: “They have a high water content in the composition, replenishing the liquids eliminated through perspiration”. Gabriela Marcelino explains that, in addition to all these benefits, fruits do not contain excess calories. They can then be combined and harmonized in various healthy and low-calorie preparations.
fruits against diseases
According to nutritionist Raquel Maranhão, the substances present in fruits can help prevent obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. “Since they often have functional compounds, they can even act to prevent cancer, which will depend on the type of fruit and existing functional substance. This fruit quality is due to the presence of antioxidant substances, which act to reduce inflammation, with the action of free radicals”, he explains.
Vary the consumption
Gabriela Marcelino adds that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are able to prevent chronic diseases. That is, fruit consumption is capable of improving health in general through the interaction of these compounds with the body’s physiological processes. “However, it is important to vary consumption when choosing fruits seasonal and others that can be found all year round”, he warns.
Grapes, for example, have resveratrol, a substance that works to reduce cholesterol levels; açaí has anthocyanins, pigment responsible for tones ranging from bright red to violet and blue and acts as an antioxidant; citrus fruits, such as acerola and guava, are rich in vitamin C.
