10 things you need to know before adopting a cat

To avoid mistreatment and abandonment, the future owner must reflect on the demands that the pet will require

Adopting a cat is a noble attitude and full of benefits. That’s because the pet can become a great friend, making the house and life more cheerful, fun and full of love. However, before carrying out the adoption, the tutor must understand the needs and care that the animal requires throughout life. In this way, abandonment is avoided when something unforeseen occurs.

Adopting a pet is a financial expense, which includes veterinary expenses, food and supplies. The tutor should make sure they have enough budget to provide the necessary care for the new friend.

3. Personality of the pet

Just like people, each cat has a unique personality. It is important that the tutor considers the pet’s individual temperament and needs to be sure that he will adapt to the home and family.

4. Other pets

If the tutor has other pets at home, you need to make sure how the cat will handle it.

5. Health care

It is important that the tutor takes the cat regularly to the veterinarian for routine examinations, vaccinations and treatment of any health problems that may arise.

6. Adequate food

It needs a balanced, species-specific diet and constant access to fresh water.

7. Adaptation to the environment

It is a territorial animal and therefore needs a space that is safecomfortable and suitable for your needs.

10. Long term commitment

The life expectancy of a cat is approximately 15 years. Therefore, the tutor must be prepared to take care of the animal during all this time.
