How to enhance your look when dealing with a frame? The expert shares his secrets of perfect eye makeup.
With a surgical mask, the eyes took over. And we returned to the pleasure of inventing them. But when you wear glasses, it’s not always easy to beautify your eyes and play with makeup. “We believe that glasses can hide make-up, while on the contrary they create a magnifying effect on the look, hence the importance of doing it well,” explains Clarins brand make-up artist Magali Marks. To begin with, everything will obviously depend on the frame: the dimensions, the shape, the color… “These are all elements that must be taken into account. We may have glasses which tend to narrow the vision, others to enlarge it. So we have to find a balance.” So, according to the expert, if the shape is rounded, we will try to develop the makeup to get a more stretched, more graphic side. Conversely, with a square or very angular frame, we’ll go for a softer, smoother gradient. “If the glasses are wide and reveal the upper part of the cheekbones, we will also work on the lower part of the eyes. But we avoid putting a pencil inside, on the mucous membrane. We’re going to choose to layer it with fairly flat lashes to make it all bigger. »

Good gestures
The makeup artist also insists on adopting the right technique. “We start by prepping the lids to refresh the eyes, for example with a micellar water that removes sebum and dead cells. And thus allow the makeup to adhere well. Then, after applying a customized eye contour to this particularly fragile area, we move on to the concealer phase, which will “combine, illuminate and set makeup.” Magali Marks advises choosing it half a shade lighter, but not more, at the risk of emphasizing puffiness. “I advise you not to put too much on the wings of the nose, because in case of an excess of material, the glasses may slip.”
Then, after lengthening the eyelashes with an eyelash curler, it remains to apply eye shadow. “As far as texture goes, the creme shadow has good hold and sets quickly. But if we want to create a little gradient, we will bet on the dust shadow, which is easier to work with. The make-up artist also recommends to warm the material in the hand. “This allows you to remove excess. Because by melting the texture directly on the eyelid, particles can fall out and therefore emphasize the effect of a tired look.

But what about the color choices? “You can of course choose by glasses and prefer additional shades. We don’t necessarily have to play the monochrome card (blue on blue). says the Clarins expert. As for the color of the eyes, there is not necessarily a ban for Magali Marks. “The important thing is to have fun. That’s right, nudes and browns are safe bets. Whether khaki or bronze works great with brown eyes. A red-tinged plum with green eyes would also work well. But still be careful, red pigments should be avoided if the eyes redden easily. And if you’ve ever opted for an already colorful frame, you can play the sobriety card by settling for a little mascara. “And in this case, you can bet on beautiful lipstick.”
Harmonize the entire face
And if it’s important to take care of your appearance, you don’t have to forget about the rest of your face. “I would go for a matte foundation because it will move less during the day. Then we add a powder that will improve the texture of the skin and guarantee a longer stay. And if it’s the shiny side that we like, we can put some onhighlighter in the upper part of the cheekbones. The Clarins expert also emphasizes blush. “Once you’ve blended your complexion, you’ll need to restore color and volume. You can have fun with blush, such as from the top of your cheekbones to your temples in a way that lifts you up. If the glasses are big, then it can be done in the same way as a sunburn on the nose. Or put a touch of rose under the eyes to relax. And if you’re afraid that the friction of the frame will make the makeup migrate, then don’t hesitate to set it upstream with a good foundation, then mist or powder.
Finally, one last tip from a makeup artist: don’t neglect your eyebrows. “You really have to consider them and make them fit your glasses. It is necessary to draw the line well, and sometimes to extend them, if the frame tends to shrink.’ Something to see more clearly when you start.
