In the special edition of “Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts”, released in January this year on the streaming platform hbo maxthe absence of JK Rowling, the author of the teenage wizards saga that inspired eight Warner Bros. films.
Seven months after the launch of this production, the British writer decided to explain why she was not involved in the said project, which involved the main actors – Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson – and four directors of all films.
In an interview with Graham Norton for Virgin Radio UK: J.K. Rowling stated that she was invited to the “Harry Potter: Return to Hogwartsbut declined to join this reunion celebrating the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the first film.
“They asked me to be a part of it and I decided I didn’t want to do it. I thought it was more about the movies than the books, you know? don’t come,” he clarified with the interviewer, who called his absence “an exception.”

But J.K. Rowling was somehow present in “Harry Potter: Return to HogwartsIn fact, the special issue included an interview with the writer dated 2019. In it, the 57-year-old writer recalled the efforts she made on the production to find the perfect actor to play Harry Potter.
At the time, it was speculated that the reasons why Rowling did not appear on the air hbo max, was due to controversial comments he posted on Twitter in 2020 that many called transphobic. For these publications, the writer was even interrogated by Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.
However, JK Rowling’s presence in the HBO Max special was inevitable. His name came to light through the testimonies of several actors who, among other things, highlighted his ability to revive the habit of reading at a time when the book’s death was foretold.

An actress whose presence was left out in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Returns was Maggie Smith, who played Professor Minerva McGonagall in the films. Another female voice that was not present at this meeting was Julie Walters, the mother of Ron Weasley, who is currently battling breast cancer.
This magical reunion was also missing one of the translators who would go on to become a great commercial and independent film star: Robert Pattinson, who gave life to the popular Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. So did Michael Gambon, who retired from the stage in 2015 due to memory loss.
Professor Lupin, played by David Thewlis, did not attend the show, which is currently available on HBO Max. In addition to those mentioned, other performers went missing: Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart), Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley), Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley), Emma Thompson (Cybill Trelawney), Warwick Davis (Professor Fleetwich), Brendan Gleeson. (Mad-Eye Moody) and David Bradley (Argus Filch).
